Ohhh Monday… I had an interesting encounter at the bus stop. I had been waiting for the bus for about five minutes and really hoping that they ALL weren’t broken down when a guy crossed the street and came right up to me. I was kind of startled since I assumed he was just coming to the bus stop and was intently looking down the road for any sign of the bus when he kinda popped up out of my peripheral vision and right in front of me. He started speaking French and asking me if I was French but as soon as he learned where I was from he broke into nearly perfect English. He told me that he had seen me on the bus the other day and knew for sure that I wasn’t Moroccan, to which I pretended to be shocked to hear that I don’t blend in with the crowd. He laughed and I decided he looked somewhat like a less scary version of 50 Cent… just vaguely though. We talked for a while until the bus came, I found out his name is Michael and he’s from Cameroon. He’s studying here in Rabat like I am, but working as well. When the bus pulled up he gave me his number and said to call him anytime.
I don’t know why, but I just wanted Monday to be over. The morning wasn’t bad because it was sunny and class didn’t drag or anything… I guess it’s just because I had a headache all day and it was hard to concentrate on anything. By the afternoon it got kinda cold too and I had only worn a light sweater so that was kinda sucky :/ But enough about the poor me crap! I’m trying to figure out what to do this weekend because I don’t want to spend it in Rabat. As much as I love my Moroccan fam fam, I need to see some more places before I leave here. Samia has another commitment this and next weekend so I have to find someone to travel with. The school isn’t putting together weekend trips, or at least it hasn’t for the last two… so that won’t work either. I’m even thinking about going somewhere calm and relaxing by myself, especially now that my phone works just fine. Ultimately I’d rather not go anywhere by myself but we’ll see how this plays out :P
I didn’t really spend any time with the fam last night, I DID get some fabulous Moroccan pizza from mama Katoum. Before she took it out of the oven, she made sure I knew that it isn’t the same as Pizza Hut and made lots of great faces describing the huge amounts of cheese on Pizza Hut pizza and that Moroccan pizza has just a little bit. Hahah… it was good, despite the lack of cheese, there was shredded up meats, green olives, sliced tomatoes, some kind of green chilli or pepper, a little bit of sauce and a little bit of cheese. I love me some American pizza, but Moroccan pizza will DEFINITELY do for now :)
As Mama Katoum would say: “Buy-Buy!”
Finally! Someone else is willing to courageously stand against the global culture of cheesemongering.
ReplyDeleteMebbe CCS has a trip you can join in on. Please don't travel alone!!
ReplyDeleteI want the pizza recipe! and ditto what Dad said!
ReplyDeleteGotta agree w/that sentiment ... having other people traveling with you in a group (even if its only a small group of two or three) gives you a safety line, 'just in case.' Not something to toss aside lightly.
